It's off to work we go…
A lucky few living life as expatriates don't need income from employment, others have "done their time" in the job market and are free to enjoy retirement, but many people need jobs to pay the bills. Finding work can be one of the most complicated – and at times disheartening – aspects of living life in France.
Finding a job
If you're an EU citizen you don't need a work permit to work in France. However, there are many other issues to consider. Take a look at the INFOrmation Pages compiled from the EU's own data on Working in France.
Non-EU citizens have a more complicated time and will need to have residency status; you can start by reading up on the requirements for a Residency Permit in France.
Employment law is heavily regulated, with specific contracts for different situations. Find out what CDD and CDI mean on the INFOrmation page that explains the ins and outs of French Job Contracts.
If you have been working but have been retrenched and are now unemployed, find out about Unemployment Benefits in France. This page also has links to job-search agencies and websites.
